An introduction to Metaphysics

In today’s blog we introduce some material from the introduction chapter of our Level 3 course manual. It will be new for most of you (who haven’t taken Level 3).

Metaphysics

The most overused and misunderstood word in spiritual circles (after “energy”) is the word metaphysics. If you have ever heard a spiritual person refer to going to a “metaphysical store” you’ll know they have no idea what it means! Metaphysical does not mean “spiritual.” They are different things.

Definition of metaphysics:

The branch of philosophy that examines the nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and matter, substance and attribute, fact and value.

Metaphysical means philosophical. When we teach healing techniques we are not teaching philosophy, but rather we are assuming or applying a body of philosophical knowledge, and this is where we apply metaphysics.

Hermetic teachings

Almost all modern healing techniques pay homage to the 2,200+ year old school of Hermetic philosophy. This ancient school of teachings has subtly influenced almost all schools of Eastern and Western thought.

Even a brief explanation of Hermetic thought is way beyond the scope of this manual. However we mention it because the basic “universal laws” of Hemetecism are the foundation of the metaphysics as it is applied in spiritual circles. In other words when spiritual people discuss the relationship between mind and matter, substance and attribute, they are invoking the Hermetic laws.

The Seven Principles of the ancient philosopher, Hermes Trismegistus. Understanding these seven laws offers you opportunities to see, hear, and to experience aspects of reality that would otherwise remain in the unnoticed shadows of your life.

  1. Mentalism – “Everything is mental; the Universe is a mental creation of the All.”
  2. Correspondence – “As above so below; as below so above; as within so without; as without so within.”
  3. Vibration – “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”
  4. Polarity – “Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths.”
  5. Rhythm – “Everything flows out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.”
  6. Cause and Effect – “Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to the law; chance is but the name for a law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law.”
  7. Gender – “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.”

The Law of Correspondence: “as above, so below”

Most of those principles, especially number 1, 2, 3 and 6 will be very familiar to anyone who reads spiritual books or attends spiritual courses. We could easily write spiritual books on each of these topics. However it’s the second law, the Law of Correspondence, which is the most important in our metaphysics of healing. The following information is drawn from www.HermeticResearch.org.

Hermes Trismegistus asserted that all information about a man could be found within a single drop of his blood and that within a man was represented the entire universe. Based on this principle, the shortest path of exploration of the cosmos was via a journey to the heart. According to The Tao of Physics by Capra, the ancient Vedas formulated through meditation, the beginnings of Quantum Physics. And that occurred three thousand years before modern scientists arrived at the same conclusions by means of mathematics.

We can apply the Law to healings. The physical body represents “that which is below” and the mind represents “that which is above”, we can say: “as is the mental state of a man, so is his body.” One could have: “a healthy mind in a healthy body”, or an ill body as a manifestation of distorted thoughts. Fortunately in the teachings of Hermes “the thrice great”, illness comes hand in hand with the remedy: “Change your thoughts and you will cure your body.”

The concept of “Metaphysical Anatomy”

In this section we consider the name and meaning of “Intuitive Anatomy” or “Metaphysical Anatomy.” The idea of “Metaphysical Anatomy” is an application of the Metaphysical Law of Correspondence. The concept is to relate our fears, traumas, doubts, and patterns in the mind to our diseases, traumas, blocks and obstacles in the body. It works the other way around of course – you can read everything about a person’s life through reading their body.

The concept of Intuitive Anatomy is ancient. Hermes wrote about it over 2,000 years ago. You can quickly see that Louise Hay and the other modern teachers of mind-body-soul connection are invoking the Law of Correspondence. This is why I state that all of our healing practices – and our metaphysics – are Hermetic. In this course we will focus on how changing your mind can change your body, and how changing your mind can change the global mind.

Examples of the Law applied to Metaphysical Anatomy:

These are applications of the Law of Correspondence.

  • where there are parasites in your body (e.g. worms), there are parasites in your life (e.g. “friends” getting a free ride);
  • where you experience being unsupported in your life (parents, partner, etc), you experience being unsupported in your body (e.g. bone damage as your skeletal system provides support and structure to your body);
  • where you are unable to give love, where you carry trauma around giving love, you are disproportionately likely to damage the left ventricle of your heart (which is the side that pumps blood (= life force energy) to your body. Similarly, if you are unable to receive love, where you carry trauma around receiving, you are more likely to damage the right ventricle of your heart (which is the side that receives de-oxygenated blood from the body);
  • where you are out of control, suffering control dramas in your life, you are most likely to experience this in your master control organ – the brain.

Reference Point Therapy is an emotional healing technique. Yet we do create powerful instant physical healings every day. We do this by translating the physical symptoms into emotional patterns using the Law of Correspondence.

On our Level 3 course, we teach you how to read the language of the anatomy, through the Law of Correspondence. Every organ and every disease can be translated into specific emotions, patterns and tones using your understanding of this Law. By completion of the Level 3 course you will be confident in reading the body and quickly knowing which emotional patterns to heal to bring about profound physical transformation.

  1. Hey Simon,
    I know that im jumping from another forum with a similiar question that i asked you. But just regarding a Back injury. Metaphysically ive always read it means lack of support or money issues. But when i ask myself the secondary gain which i get a few answers, which i continue the questioning until i get to the gut it doesnt come down to support. ? i know that i should just wait until the dvd/or course is revealed but im really loving doing the work.
    Thanks Simon

    Hi Suz
    Two answers.

    First, I think you have worked on the secondary gain of the pain (“how does pain benefit me”) but not the secondary gain of the support issue (e.g. “how does it benefit me to compain about being unsupported”). I find that the latter is the key, whereas most would only look at the former.

    Secondly, you are looking at support (relating to bones) but what about muscles – that’s usually where the pain is. There’s probably nothing wrong with your bones! Muscles are contractile tissue which means that they give strength and flexibility and create tension in the body. They carry the blocks of rigidity, responsibility, burden and tension.

    Look at the secondary gain of holding on to tension, stress, rigidity, other people’s burdens, etc.

    It’s actually easy, but then this is a whole day of the Level 3 so you are doing some advanced work.

  3. Hi Simon

    I think that i was ignoring the metaphysical link. I was just purely asking myself the benefit of the back injury Getting the answer “Not having to go to work for a few days”. and then asking myself why i dont go for the job i want, example fear of failure then getting that down to the gut, then acknowledging how the gut tone keeps me safe.
    But never doing the metaphysical link, only because it wasnt revealed to me when i asked myself, so i gather by the blog that it has to be addressed?

  5. Hi Simon,

    thank you for this inspiring insight! I am looking forward to learn all about this in the level 3 course.
    I would love to know more however about the „metaphysics“ of emotions and feelings. I don’t know if there is a chapter in the manual dedicated to this issue: what is the nature of emotions and feelings, how do they work, and how can a human being handle them in a healthy way. What do you think about this?
    In my work I made the experience that it is not enough just to change your mind. This would be like playing games on the surface of a huge ocean. Would you agree to say that the mind has it’s important function in making us aware of what is happing in the grounds, getting concious about how we (unconsciously) work, what our patterns are. I think this aspect of getting more and more conscious is very important.
    So I would say that with RPT we get in contact with the suppressed emotions that are cut-off-emotions. Actually there are no bad emotions that have to be eradicated. What would you say? When we get aware of their existance without resistance we have a chance to re-integrate them in our system. This will be empowering – to be in touch with our self, our feelings. I am patiently observing what is happening when I work with RPT because– just like the metaphysicians in the philosophical tradition – I would like to understand the underlying „principle“. I feel that RPT offers as a byproduct new perspectives on a life philosophy that is not just theoretical but very practical and down to the earth.
    In regard to the Law of Correspondance this reminds me of course of our coherence-work. A coherent person will be authentic, will be able to always speak the truth, his truth as it is. This is worth achieving.
